Tulane Athletics

Letter from the Athletics Director

Dear Tulanian,

We are writing to update you on the progress taking place within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Tulane University. In December 2005 we suspended 8 of our 16 programs as part of the university’s Renewal Plan. We now compete in 14 Division I programs and are pleased to report that in 2011-12 we will be at full strength with 16 programs.

In the last five years our student-athletes have achieved so much – in competition, in the classroom and in service to the community. There have been moments of greatness, such as recent Conference USA championships and NCAA Tournament appearances from Volleyball, Women’s Basketball and Women’s Golf. In addition, we recently announced that our student-athletes held an average G.P.A. of 3.1 for the spring semester.

Every day we reflect on how proud we are of our student-athletes who have represented Tulane so well throughout its history, during the challenges that Hurricane Katrina dealt us and in the five years since. However, as much as we appreciate our student-athletes on an individual basis, we recognize that we must get better in all of our programs, most notably football and men’s basketball.

Improvement in our athletics program is a priority for Tulane University. This will be achieved via a thorough and long-term plan that will include enhanced financial resources, staffing and academic support and facilities projects. For example, last month we hired a new basketball coach, Ed Conroy, and we will soon break ground on a much-needed basketball and volleyball practice facility.

Our overall message is this: Tulane University is committed to enhancing and improving its athletics programs. As we move toward the promise of a more competitive era in Tulane Athletics, we are requesting a show of support from our friends, fans and family. A tangible way to support us is by making a gift to the Tulane Athletics Fund (TAF). Donate today by clicking here or by calling (504) 865-5356.

Finally, thank you again for staying the course with Tulane Athletics. We have faced more challenges in the last decade than any other Division 1 program. We promise you that your faith in the Green Wave will be rewarded.

Roll Wave!
