Dear Green Wave fans,

It has been a remarkable week for Tulane University and Green Wave Athletics. On Monday we announced the hiring of Curtis Johnson as the head coach of Tulane Football and earlier today, Tulane University unveiled the “Home Field Advantage” Campaign which is headlined by a plan to build an on-campus stadium right here in Uptown New Orleans. The former provides the right leadership to build a nationally-renowned football program and the latter gives our program a true “home field advantage.” This week truly signals a new era of Tulane Football.

After conducting an extensive national search President Cowen and I continued to gravitate to someone right here in our own backyard. Coach Johnson has an outstanding record as an innovator with an exceptional reputation as a great developer, motivator and leader. Rest assured we are providing him with the necessary tools to build a winning program that will compete regularly for conference titles and post-season bowl games. For more information on Coach Johnson and his credentials visit www.TulaneGreenWave.com.

Not many athletic directors have the luxury of announcing both a head football coach and a new stadium in the same week so let me tell you about what will become the ultimate crown jewel for Tulane University – the Tulane Community Stadium. Throughout my tenure at Tulane, I have heard countless stories about people’s experiences at old Tulane Stadium. It is now time to build new memories for those that once watched the Green Wave on campus, as well as provide an experience like no other for a new generation of Green Wave fans.

An on-campus stadium will foster a sense of community for students and will provide a rallying point and sense of pride and tradition for alumni, parents and friends. It will be a magnet for New Orleanians who want to experience a true college football atmosphere in New Orleans. Fans young and old, alumni and those who never attended Tulane will swarm to the Tulane Community Stadium. Tulane Football will once again be part of the fabric of our great city.

The “Home Field Advantage” Campaign is a $70 million effort which consists of $60 million for the facility aspect and an additional $10 million component which will provide enhanced support for Tulane Athletics with an emphasis on Tulane Football. As a result of three leadership gifts and multiple other major gifts totaling $40 million, we are well on our way. However, we need all Tulanians to step-up and support this effort and there are a number of ways to do so – please visit www.TulaneStadium.com for more information. There you will find detailed information about the stadium itself, the Home Field Advantage Campaign and ways to support it, information about seating and tickets at the new stadium and you will also see renderings of the facility and a “fly-through” video. If you’re anything like me, you will get chills every time you watch it.

I’ve never been more optimistic than I am today about the future of Tulane Athletics. On behalf of all of us, thank you in advance for your support of Coach Johnson and the new Tulane Community Stadium. It’s going to be a great ride.
