Dear Green Wave supporter,

Earlier today, the New Orleans City Council voted to accept Councilmember Guidry's Interim Zoning District (IZD) proposal. While we are very disappointed with this decision, we are more resolved than ever to make Tulane Stadium a reality. And rest assured, we will.

Today's meeting reaffirmed a few things - supporters of Tulane University will rise up to tell the story of what our university has done for our community; the stadium has near universal support; and we will build Tulane Stadium.

The council chamber was filled with students, our own football and basketball student-athletes, alumni, fans, and many other friends. Countless of you have written your council members, and more than 2,400 have signed our petition in just two days. In fact, soon after the meeting Mayor Mitch Landrieu issued a statement in opposition to the IZD which is not surprising as he has been a proponent of Tulane Stadium from the start. The New Orleans Saints also issued a statement in support of the stadium; read here. We greatly appreciate the outcry of support this afternoon.

So what’s next? President Cowen and I, our trustees and the planning committee are moving forward with the design and planning of Tulane Stadium. We will do so with an eye to opening in 2014, as initially planned. Despite the vote today, each council member endorsed the project and promised to facilitate the process so as not to delay our construction. We will continue, as we have for multiple months, working with our neighbors to reach resolution on some of their issues and are confident we will do so.

We urge you to continue expressing your support of this project and opposition of the IZD and will keep you updated every step of the way on

Roll Wave!
