Head Coach Liz Kritza's Comments Following Thursday's Practice

Sept. 4, 2008

On her team's goals for the Paso Robles Marriott Invitational
"We have a chance to prove to ourselves and avenge the losses that we think we could have performed better in. The good thing about athletics is when you lose, it gives you a chance to come back and perform well - whether it be match-to-match or weekend to weekend. We are looking for a good performance this weekend."

On facing a tough tournament field over the weekend
"We knew that two of the three teams in this tournament were going to be in the Top 25 when we scheduled them over a year ago. Exactly where? We did not know, but we knew they would likely be somewhere in the Top 10-15. Our preparation has been geared towards making sure we know what we are up against and taking the best advantage of the opportunity that we are presenting to this team."

On the team's overall level of improvement since last weekend's BYU Molten Classic
"I think the preconference portion of our schedule is when you formulate your team. I like the changes that we have made. I like the improvement. We did not lose much from last year and I knew for this group that it would take some tough losses for them to realize where we really need to improve on specific things, team wise."

On if there is an advantage to being able to practice at Cal Poly all week
"Routine and familiarity are huge in any sport. For us (being in California) it has been extremely advantageous. Instead of making two long trips - one back to New Orleans from Utah and one to the West Coast - we have been safe and secure here, and we've been able to practice in the gym that we are going to play in this weekend. I like to think that we are a little bit more prepared to adjust to an environment a little bit faster because we have been able to practice here for the last four days."

On if there is a negative to being on the road for so long
"Any time you have these kids away from home and outside of their normal environment, some weariness and some tiredness can set in. If we had not been evacuated last week, we would have arrived at Cal Poly today and went through a practice. Our discussion with them today was `look, this is when we get back into our business trip. This is a normal weekend for us.' I think they are excited. They are excited to see how much they have improved from last week and excited to see if we can pull some of these upsets off."
