Sept. 2, 2002
NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane University volleyball opens its 2002 home schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 3, when the Green Wave plays a doubleheader against Prairie View A&M and Jackson State in Fogelman Arena at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
Tulane comes into the contest 1-2 after last weekend's San Diego State/Ramada Invitational where the three teams the Green Wave faced - San Diego State, UC-Santa Barbara and Florida International - all advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago.
"We're happy to be home after a weekend in California," head coach Betsy Becker said. "We need to do some repair work that we observed this weekend, and we'll concentrate mainly on our side for the two matches on Tuesday."
Senior outside hitter Britney Hurst leads the team with a 5.27 kills-per-game average and with 2.82 digs per game. Junior libero Karlyn Daly is second on the team with 2.73 digs per game, and sophomore middle blocker Deva Fowler is second in kills with a 2.36 average.
At the net, junior middle blocker Kim Swafford paces the Green Wave with 1.45 blocks per game, while Fowler is close behind with a 1.00 average. Sophomore setter Katie Case is the team's floor general and is average 10.55 assists per game.
Following Tuesday's doubleheader, the Green Wave return to action on Friday, Sept. 6 when Tulane host the 2002 NOKIA Sugar Bowl Classic. Also participating in the round-robin tournament are UNO, LSU and Louisiana Tech. For ticket information, call the Tulane Ticket Office at (504) 861-WAVE.
