NEW ORLEANS -- The Tulane women's volleyball team was picked to finish in eighth in the 2000 Conference USA Preseason Poll the league office announced on Thursday.

The C-USA favorite for 2000 is Louisville, who returns five of six starters and has reached the NCAA tournament three of the last four years. Houston's Michelle Fraizer was named the C-USA Preseason Player of the Year.

The eighth place prediction is the highest for the Green Wave in two years. Tulane returns four starters including All-Conference USA selection, Kim Sentmore. The Wave welcomes six newcomers to the team including Texas standouts Lauren Jones-McClain and Anastasia Kenon.

"We look at this preseason ranking as a challenge," said Head Coach Betsy Becker Ferrer. "We will thrive on the pressure and prove to everyone that we are better than this prediction."

Tulane begins the 2000 season hosting the Kathy Trosclair Invitational on Sept 1-2. The tournament features Northwestern State, Troy State and Centenary.
