IRVING, Texas - For the second year in a row, Tulane middle blocker Cori Martone was named to the Conference USA Preseason Team, announced the league offices on Wednesday.

In addition to naming the C-USA Preseason Team, the Preseason Poll was also released, with Tulane placing tenth out of the 15 teams in the league. The team and poll were voted on by league coaches, and coaches could not vote for their own student-athletes.

Martone earned All-Conference USA Second Team honors last season after ranking eighth and ninth, respectively, with 3.46 kills and 4.02 points per set. The Baton Rouge, La., native appeared in and started in 24 matches, playing a total of 97 sets. She led the Greenies in kills (336), total attempts (896), service aces (25), service aces per set (0.26) and points (389.5).

"This is an honor that Cori has earned in the past, and she is very deserving of it," stated Tulane director of volleyball Sinisa Momic. "With this being her senior season, I think she is going to push herself to be even better this season, and I think she will have a very special year."

In 2011, Martone earned Second Team All-Conference USA honors as a sophomore, one year after being named to the Conference USA Freshman of the Year. For her career, she ranks 12th in school history in kills per set (3.10) and is 14th in kills (987), points (1165.5) and points per set (3.67).

Tulane will welcome seven new volleyball programs to the conference, as UTSA, North Texas, Middle Tennessee, FIU, Charlotte and Florida Atlantic will joined the league in July. UTSA tied for second in the preseason poll, while North Texas came in at fourth and Middle Tennessee placed sixth with all three teams earning first place votes. Tulsa - winners of the 2012 regular season and C-USA Championship - tied UTSA for second place, while Rice earned top honors.

"There is a lot of unknown this season with new teams joining the league," added Momic. "Additionally, we have a lot of new players coming in who will contribute in a variety of ways. I think it's too hard for anyone to be able to say where anyone will finish this season. I think we have the potential to have a very good season."

Tulane will open their season at home, as they play host to the Kathy Trosclair Memorial on Aug. 30 and 31 at Devlin Fieldhouse. The Greenies will square off against Mississippi Valley State at 7pm CT on Aug. 30 before playing a doubleheader the following day against Rider (10am CT) and Nicholls State (7pm CT).
