NEW ORLEANS - Former Tulane volleyball player Amaris Genemaras was among 12 Conference USA student-athletes named to the recipient list of the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship Award, C-USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced on Monday.
This is the third year the award has been named for Dr. Castañeda, who served Rice University for 46 years as an educator, coach and Faculty Athletics Representative before he passed away in November 2008. The conference annually presents the $4,000 Postgraduate Scholarship awards to graduates as selected by the C-USA Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.
Genemaras was a four year letterwinner for the Green Wave and appeared in all 32 matches during her senior season. In 2010, the Metairie, La. native saw time at the libero and outside hitter positions and collected a team-best 318 digs. She set career-highs in digs, assists (21), matches (32) and sets (111) played in her final season.
