NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane University volleyball program will be well represented this week at the 2014 FIVB U23 Beach Volleyball World Championship as Green Wave sand head coach and indoor assistant Wayne Holly was selected to serve as an assistant coach for Team USA at the international event from June 10-15 in Mysolwice, Poland.

Holly and Team USA Beach - the national governing body for beach volleyball in the United States which is both recognized and supported by the United States Olympic Committee - trained last week in southern California and has extensive experience with the national team. He is one of two individuals with Tulane ties taking part in the age-bracketed event as rising sophomore Tea Juric will also be in attendance as a member of Team Croatia.

"I'm honored to represent USA Beach Volleyball and I am grateful for the opportunity to coach such amazing athletes in our quest for a world championship," Holly said. "The pursuit to be the best in the world in our age group is both challenging and exhilarating. I am also very thankful to Tulane University for allowing me the flexibility to travel and coach with our USA team."

The 2014 FIVB U23s marks the second consecutive year Holly has been involved with Team USA. Last year, he was an assistant under Jose Liola at the FIVB U21 Beach World Championship in Croatia and was also the head coach of the USA Beach A2 High Performance Camp in Hermosa Beach, Calif., as well as the USA Beach A3 High Performance Camps in Gulf Shores, Ala., and Chula Vista, Calif.

Entering his second season with the Green Wave for the upcoming 2014-15 academic year, Holly was an instrumental part in the indoor team posting the nation's largest turnaround from 2012 to 2013. After going 6-21 the year prior to his arrival, Tulane posted a 28-4 overall record, finished second in the Conference USA regular-season standings with a 12-2 league record and advanced to the title game of the C-USA Volleyball Championship in the fall.

Along the way, the Wave led the conference in kills per set (14.90) and assists per set (13.89) while ranking fourth and seventh nationally in the respective categories. Tulane was also second in C-USA and 18th in the NCAA in attack percentage, blasting away at a .267 clip.

As head coach of the sand team during the spring, Holly guided the Green Wave to an 8-7 dual-match record with back-to-back 3-2 wins over ULM and UAB on the season's final weekend. In addition, the tandem of Juric and rising junior Jackie Wegner earned an invitation to the 2014 AVCA College Sand Volleyball National Championship, which is a first for the Tulane program.
