Volleyball Opens Spring Play by Winning LSU Tournament
March 30, 2008
NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane volleyball team emerged from their pool and then defeated LSU 3-2 in the final to open its spring season with a tournament championship. In the final, the Green Wave downed LSU 18-25, 25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 15-11. Ksenija Vlaskovic recorded a team-leading 27 kills, while Bridget Wells added 17 and Sara Radosevic chipped in 13. "Obviously, any time you can win a tournament championship, that's a good thing," head coach Liz Kritza said. "But the important part of the spring season is that our players are working hard, and constantly improving." Last season, the Green Wave won at LSU in five to close the regular season. Tulane won its pool Saturday with wins over Southeastern Louisiana, Southern University. After splitting two games with New Orleans, the Green Wave advanced to the final via point differential. The Green Wave will head to the Texas Tornadoes College Spring Tournament next weekend, a 24-team field in which Tulane placed second last season. All 13 players from last season's 28-6 team will return for 2008, including five All Conference USA selections, and three AVCA All-America Honorable Mention award winners. The Green Wave received votes in the final AVCA Top 25 poll, ranking 30th.
