NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane University volleyball program and head coach Sinisa Momic have announced the addition of Izabela Grot for the 2010 season. Grot will enter with three years of eligibility remaining after spending the past two seasons at Kansas State, redshirting during her first year on campus. A native of Krakow, Poland, Grot will be the fourth new addition for the TU program heading into their second season under Momic.
Grot spent two seasons on campus in Manhattan, Kan. and appeared in 20 matches in 2009 after redshirting during her true freshman campaign. In 39 sets, the Poland native collected 33 kills and posted 13 digs for the Wildcats. She accumulated ten blocks, two solo, and averaged just under one kill per-set.
" We are very happy to have Izabela joining us this spring," said Tulane head coach Sinisa Momic. "She will be a great asset to this program, not only because of her experience, playing for quality programs like Kansas State and the Polish Junior National Team, but she also brings size and versatility. With her ability to contribute as an outside or a right side hitter, she will give our team even greater depth and we expect big contributions this spring from her."
Before joining Kansas State, Grot helped her club volleyball team to the final tournament of the Junior Polish Championships. As a prep, the right-side hitter was selected as a member of the Polish Junior National Team from 2003-05.
Grot will join Azarri Badawi, Cori Martone and Melody Mandelbaum as the four newcomers on the roster. The redshirt sophomore will be the only player from Poland on the roster, but is joined by fellow international student-athletes Visnja Djurdjevic, Milica Jovic and Ksenija Vlaskovic, who are all from Serbia.
