Volleyball Sweeps Southern, 3-0; Runs State Win Streak To 13
Oct. 12, 2004 BATON ROUGE, La. - Senior outside hitter Anastasia Kenon posted 10 kills and sophomore right-side hitter Blair Moon tallied 12 digs as the Tulane University volleyball team defeated Southern in straight games, 30-14, 30-21, 30-24, Tuesday night in Seymour Gymnasium. All 12 of its healthy players - freshman Sarah Weiland did not play due to a strained abdominal muscle - as the Green Wave remained undefeated all-time vs. the Jaguars. With the win, Tulane improves to 10-4 overall and 29-0 vs. the Lady Jags, and runs its winning streak against team from the state of Louisiana to 13 dating back to the 2002 season. "We'll never take a win for granted, and I felt that Southern improved since last time we played them," head coach Betsy Becker said. "We got a chance to play all of our players tonight in a variety of combinations, and it was very encouraging to see our whole team playing well and not just the seven or eight that usually get into the game." Following Kenon, senior middle blocker Iman Houston was next for the Green Wave offense with nine kills, while freshman outside hitter Angela Wiggins and senior outside hitter Lindsey Norman posted eight kills each. Defensively, the Green Wave held Southern to a .099 attack percentage by limiting the Lady Jags to 32 kills and 21 errors in 111 swings. Freshman libero Lindsey Karlin was second to Moon on the team in digs with nine, and Norman was next with seven. Southern's Lindsay Kauk led all players with 12 kills, while Mary Young and Shemetia Whitaker led the Lady Jags in digs with 14 and 13, respectively.
