The Green Wave made quick work of the Lady Jaguars in the straight-games victory, 30-11, 30-17, 30-15 - in a match that took just one hour and 12 minutes. With the win, Tulane improves to 7-2 on the year and marks the 12th consecutive victory over an in-state opponent dating back to the 2002 season. Southern, meanwhile, falls to 0-5. "We did what we were supposed to do tonight," head coach Betsy Becker said. "We stayed disciplined throughout the match, and achieved our goal of keeping them to under 15 in game three. It's always good to have the opportunity to play some of the reserves, and when they were in, we didn't skip a beat. They kept the intensity level high and executed the game plan. "We recognize that games like this are few and far between, and I feel that we took advantage of this opportunity. We'll get back to practice next week and just work on raising the bar for Conference USA play." The Tulane defense dominated the match, tallying 43 digs to Southern's 27, and held the Lady Jags to a .000 attack percentage with 18 kills and 18 errors in 82 swings. Despite playing in just two of the three games, junior libero Kelli Dickson led the squad with 10 digs. Freshman outside hitter Angela Wiggins and sophomore right-side hitter Blair Moon both posted nine, and Weiland chipped in with six. Offensively, the Green Wave recorded a .381 attack percentage with 53 kills and just 16 errors in 97 attempts, including a plus-.500 clips by Fowler and senior outside hitter Lindsey Norman. Fowler led all players with a .556 attack percentage after committing just one miscue in 18 chances, and Norman posted a .500 mark with nine kills and one error in 16 swings.
Southern was led offensively by Lindsay Kauk and Kendra Hill, who posted four kills each, and Latoya Fontenot paced the Lady Jag defense with seven digs.
