Wave Topped By FAU In First Saturday Match at Hawkeye Challenge

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Tulane University volleyball team rallied from down 2-0, but lost in the fifth game to Florida Atlantic University Saturday at the Hawkeye-Holiday Inn Challenge, 30-25, 31-29, 22-30, 26-30, 15-5 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. With sophomore outside hitter Sara Radosevic out of the lineup, two members of the Wave set new career-high in kills. Freshman outside hitter Ksenija Vlaskovic set her best with 21 kills and sophomore middle blocker Jen Linder added a career-high 13 kills with a .417 hitting percentage and one solo block. Sophomore outside Bridget Wells chipped in 14 kills, two off her career best, but Tulane fell to 3-2 on the season. Senior middle blocker Sara Thorson chipped in 11 kills and a pair of assisted blocks. The Green Wave fell behind early in game one without Radosevic, an All-Conference USA pick and AVCA All-America Honorable Mention player, falling 30-25. In game two, the two teams battled to 28-28, but the Owls put the Tulane down 2-0 with a 31-29 win. The Wave rallied in game three, rolling to a 30-22 win, and staved off elimination with a 30-26 win in game four to force a deciding fifth game. But the fifth game was all FAU, as the Owls reeled off a 13-2 run to end the match. The Owls hit .462 in the deciding fifth game. Freshman setter Rachel Lindelow entered the match with 43 assists in 11 games and topped that mark in five games with a career-high 56 assists. Freshman libero Jenn Miller led five members of the Wave in double-digit digs with 26. Vlaskovich (13), Lindelow (12), Wells (11) and sophomore Liz McGehee (14) also got to double-digits.
The Owls' Janelle Sarauw paced FAU with 17 kills, while Iana Andonova added 13 more. Tulane is back on the court at 5:00 p.m. against the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Live stats are available via Gametracker at www.TulaneGreenWave.com. |
