NEW ORLEANS - It is not often that the college volleyball scene sees a match on Thursday afternoon, but on September 8 the Tulane volleyball squad opposed FAU in Boca Raton, Fla. and claimed a three-set victory over the host Owls. The Green Wave claimed three tight set victories on their way to the match win, grabbing their fourth win of the season by scores of 27-25, 25-21, 25-20.

The Green Wave held a slim edge early on in the first set, pulling ahead by two points at 9-7. That would be their largest lead of the match until it ended, 27-25, in their favor. From that point on, FAU held the advantage, but was unable to pull away from Tulane, who never let the Owls lead grow to more than three points. That three point lead last came when Izabela Grot was blocked at the net to make it 22-19 in favor of the home team. From that point on, Tulane outscored the Owls 8-3 down the stretch and Cori Martone was a big reason for the come-from-behind victory. Martone tied the match at 24-24 and 25-25 with kills and ended the match with a service ace to put the Green Wave ahead one set.

FAU again led throughout the second set, including a 9-3 lead in the early going, just to see the Wave come crashing down on them again down the stretch. The Owls led 20-18 when Grace Weaver committed one of six TU service errors on the night, but like the first set, Tulane outscored their hosts 7-1 to claim the set win. Anna Wruck had two kills down the stretch and Grot added a kill of her own. In tend with was Weaver with a successful attack and a service error that ended the second set.

The third set was controlled by Tulane in the beginning and FAU grabbed some late momentum, but again the Green Wave would take over at the end to claim the win. Milica Jovic's kill gave Tulane their largest lead in the early going at 9-6, before FAU rallied to take a 17-15 lead on a Lauren Jones kill. The late set run for Tulane was 10-3 to close out the match and grab the match in three sets. The Owls committed four attacking errors and four different Tulane players had kills down the stretch to help them close out the match.

Martone's nine kills tied for the match high and led a balanced Green Wave attack, as the sophomore hit .429 for the match. Grot added eight kills and eight digs, Wruck chipped in seven kills, Weaver and Jovic each added six kills and Azarri Badawi netted four kills. Nikki Osuna led all players with 15 digs and Weaver added nine digs on the defensive side of things. Lilly Wolfe handed out 20 assists and Elysa Jackson assisted on 15 kills on the night.

The Green Wave will travel a little further south in the state of Florida to take on FIU on Friday, September 9. Their match versus the Panthers will start at 6:30 Central time.
