A native of Lincoln, Neb., Wendy Svoboda was named Tulane's director of athletic training in August 2001. She directs a staff of eight certified athletic trainers who oversee the injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of all Green Wave student-athletes.
Svoboda came to Tulane as an assistant athletic trainer in 2000 and worked primarily with the volleyball team. She continues to work closely with that squad while also managing the entire athletic training operation. Svoboda's current stint at Tulane is her second; she was a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Tulane from 1993-95 when she worked with the women's basketball and football teams.
She left New Orleans in 1995 to take over as head trainer at Abilene High School in Abilene, Texas, where she worked with prep athletes in 20 interscholastic sports.
Svoboda earned a bachelor's degree in education with emphasis in athletic training and community health from the University of Nebraska in 1992. She served as a student athletic trainer for the Cornhuskers during her four years at the school. She is a board certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the Louisiana Athletic Trainers Association, and is licensed by the Texas State Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers.
