A native New Orleanian, Russ Givean begins his first season as the student equipment manager for the Tulane volleyball team.
Givean is responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the team's equipment and uniforms, setting up and taking down of practice, as well as keeping passing stats on the bench to assist the coaching staff during matches.
In addition to his commitment to the volleyball team, Givean is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a Bible study leader, and received the prestigious Senatorial Scholarship in 2000. He has volunteered as a lab assistant in the Human Performance Lab of TISM and was a co-founder of the volleyball team's rowdy student supporters, The Superfans.
A 2000 graduate of Faith Christian Academy, Givean was a five-year starter in baseball where he earned District MVP honors as a junior and senior while serving as the team captain both seasons. Off the diamond, Givean was the Beta Club and Student Council Presidents, was class president three times and a two-time Top 5 finisher in the Louisiana Academic State Rally.
A fourth-year senior majoring in biomechanical engineering, Givean is on pace to earn his degree in May 2004.
