Katie Case begins her first season as an assistant coach with the Green Wave volleyball team, but is no stranger to the program after starting at setter for the club from 2001-04.
Her duties with the Wave will include implementing practice plans - particularly setter training - serving as the team's academic liaison, orchestrating team travel, assisting with the marketing of the program, helping to identify and actively recruit potential student-athletes, and coordinating the Tulane Volleyball Camps.
Case not only brings four years of Division I collegiate playing experience to the table, but also seven years of coaching experience at the club level. She began her coaching career as a junior in high school, and over the last seven years, has worked with a wide array of skill-level players. Included among her list of instructional camps worked are the Tulane Volleyball Camps, the Nicole Kacor Volleyball Camp and the Elite Setters and All-Skills camps for Sports Performance Volleyball Club, the most highly recruited Junior Volleyball program in the nation.
In addition, she directed her own camps in the metropolitan Chicago area and served as a private coach in the New Orleans area. Case also has experience as a referee, working with both the Great Lakes Adult Summer League and at St. Rafael School in the Chicago area.
Her collegiate career was cut short due to a pair of knee injuries in 2002 and 2004, but Case was instrumental in helping the Green Wave post a 79-45 overall record, a 31-24 mark in Conference USA action. Her 2,769 career assist total ranks third in Tulane history. All told, Case tallied 207 kills, 71 service aces, 576 digs and 82 blocks.
A standout in the classroom as well, Case was a four-time C-USA Commissioner's List honoree for posting an annual grade point average of 3.2 or better. She claimed the Tulane Athletic Directors Award as a senior and earned the Tulane Volleyball Leadership Award as a junior.
Case was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and served as the scholarship chairperson from November 2003 to January 2005. She also was a scholarship committee member of the social organization from Sept. 2003 to Nov. 2004 and the recording secretary from Nov. 2002 to Nov. 2003. She also served as a volunteer for the NFHS National Student Leadership Conference in Indianapolis, Ind., in 2002, where she facilitated leadership activities for 200 high school students from across the United States.
Case came to Tulane following a standout prep career at Benet Academy where she earned honorable-mention all-state, all-area, All-East Suburban Catholic Conference and team MVP honors as a senior (2000). She helped Benet go 19-15-1 and claim the Regional Championship with a win over third-ranked Naperville Central. Off the court, she was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club and the Honor Roll.
In addition to her performance at Benet, Case also played four years for Sports Performance Volleyball Club in Chicago where she helped the squad finish third at the USA Volleyball Junior National Championship in 1998 and 2000. During her final season with SPVC, she earned AAU All-America honors.
A native of Naperville, Ill., Case completed bachelor's degrees in marketing and management from Tulane in December 2005, and graduated Magna Cum Laude. She is currently pursuing her master's of business finance at the A.B. Freeman School of Business.
