NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane women's tennis team returns to action this weekend on the road at the 2011 Hokie Invitational, Nov. 4-6, at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va. Matches will begin each morning and are expected to last all day.
The nine team field for this year's event includes Elon, East Tennessee State, Liberty, Maryland-Baltimore County, Radford, Tulane, host Virginia Tech, William & Mary and Wofford.
Tulane will have eight student-athletes in action, including senior Mariam Kurdadze and junior Caroline Thornton in the flight A singles, while juniors Caroline Magnusson and Emma Levy will battle in flight B, senior Lindsay Dvorak and junior Hila Elster will participate in flight C and freshman Emily Dvorak and junior Emma Helisten will compete in flight D singles.
In doubles action, the tandems of Kurdadze and Levy will join Magnusson and Thornton in flight A, while Lindsay Dvorak and Elster, along with the duo of Emily Dvorak and Helisten, participate in the flight B doubles bracket.
The Hokie Invitational will be the final tune-up of the fall season for the Green Wave. Tulane enters the event with a combined singles mark of 38-30 and an overall doubles record of 23-13. Magnusson currently has the most singles wins this season with a 7-3 mark, while Kurdadze is second with a 6-3 record.
In doubles, Kuradadze and Levy lead the Wave with a 7-3 record, while Magnusson and Thornton have emerged as doubles threat for Tulane with a mark of 4-1 and enters this week's event riding a four-match win streak.
Following the Hokie Invitational, the Green Wave will be off during the month of December and returns to action for the spring season with a doubleheader against Xavier and Southern at home on January 29, 2012.
