New Orleans - Tulane senior Klara Vyskocilova and sophomore Ipek Birol won their opening round of the pre-qualifying singles on Saturday, but fell short in the second round today of the 2013 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships at the Los Angeles Tennis Center in Westwood, Calif.
Vyskocilova and Birol began pre-qualifying doubles on Saturday morning against Memphis' Skylar Kuykendall and Liza Tymchenko in the opening round and came away with an 8-3 victory against its former Conference USA rival.
Today, Tulane's tandem took on Miami's (Fla.) fourth-seeded team of Stephanie Wagner and Kelsey Laurente and came up short, 8-6.
"Obviously, we are disappointed that we couldn't close out today's match against Miami, but we played well and at this point in the young season that is all that matters," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk said.
Vyskocilova will begin singles play in the qualifying round, Oct. 1-2.
