New Orleans - Tulane senior Klara Vyskocilova will begin her final season as the 53rd-ranked singles player in the nation as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has announced its 2013-14 preseason national rankings.
Vyskocilova, who hails from Klatovy, Czech Republic, is one of four Conference USA players ranked among the nation's elite. She completed her junior season with a singles national ranking of No. 70 and was rated as the fifth-best player in the Southern Region.
A 2013 first team All-Conference USA and All-Louisiana selection and a Louisiana co-Player of the Year, Vyskocilova played the top spot on both singles and doubles and logged a 19-8 singles record and 11-10 doubles mark.
"Obviously we are absolutely thrilled about the much-deserved recognition from the ITA with Klara's preseason ranking of #53," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk said. "Klara is quite a talented player, and coupled with her desire to work hard, makes this a special honor for her. I expect nothing but great things from her as a senior and she also is determined to make it special."
A year ago, she helped the program to a 17-7 overall record and a season-high No. 38 national ranking. Along the way, the Wave put together a seven-match win streak, recorded a win over the nation's 38th-ranked squad, was 8-1 at home, 4-1 against Conference USA rivals and won 12 of its final 14 matches to end the year.
Vyskocilova ranked among the nation's top singles players the entire season, including as high as No. 58, and sported a 12-6 dual record, all at No. 1. Her biggest win came against the nation's No. 31 ranked player and nine of her 12 dual victories were in straight sets. Vyskocilova was named the C-USA Athlete of the Week on March 19.
