Tulane senior Anna Monhartova started off her 2000-01 season with a big victory.

MOBILE, Ala.-- Tulane's Anna Monhartova, a senior from Plzen, Czech Republic, won the Country Club of Mobile Collegiate Invitational Tennis Championship Monday with a 6-2, 1-2 (ret) upset victory over Viktoria Stoklasova. Stoklasova, a freshman at the University of South Alabama, came into the tournament unseeded but is expected to be one of the top freshmen in the NCAA this year.
Monhartova had advanced to the final with a 0-6, 6-4, 6-3 upset win over Stoklasova's teammate and the tournament's No. 2 seed, Martina Ondrejkova, in the semifinals.
The Green Wave's No. 1 player as a junior last season, Monhartova led Tulane to a 14-9 overall record and a third-place finish at the 2000 Conference USA Championships.
Tulane opens the fall season Sept. 19 at the ITA Clay Court Championships and at the Alabama Invitational.
