New Orleans - The Tulane women's tennis trio of senior Jessica Lange, junior Emma Helisten and sophomore Jenny Hois has each been named 2012 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athletes, as it was announced today by the ITA.
"I continually brag about my team and their accomplishments on the court and to then add three ITA scholar athletes is quite impressive," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk said. "The dedication it takes to receive this type of an award at a school as prestigious as Tulane is astounding and I am thrilled for this type of accolade for Emma, Jessica and Jenny."
Each of the three Green Wave achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher in the classroom and played key roles in leading Tulane to a 19-6 overall record this past season, which was the most wins for the team since the 2004-05 campaign, and helped the Wave back into the national rankings where the team ranked as high as No. 52.
A communication major from Helsinki, Finland, Helisten posted a 3.76 GPA and posted a 12-3 overall record, including a dual mark 4-1 at the lower positions in the singles line-up, and was 6-3 in doubles.
In her first season in a Green Wave uniform, Hois was an immediate contributor both on and off the court. The Downers Grove, Ill., native sported a 3.59 GPA as a business major and registered a 13-7 singles mark, including a dual record of 11-6 at the No. 5 slot, and finished with a record of 2-0 in doubles.
A four-year letterwinner for the Green Wave and a member of the inaugural signing class when the program returned in 2008-09, Lange completed her final year at TU with a 3.87 GPA and received bachelor degrees in finance and marketing this past May. Lange, who hails from Peachtree City, Ga., won her lone singles match this past season and completed her career with 19-16 all-time record in singles.
