NEW ORLEANS - Tulane women's tennis junior Emily Dvorak was named one of the 16 student-athletes to receive the Conference USA Spring Spirit of the Service Award, it was announced by the conference commissioner Britton Banowsky on Wednesday.
The Spirit of Service award is presented three times throughout the season, with these honorees representing C-USA's spring sports of baseball, golf, women's rowing, softball, tennis and outdoor track and field.
Dvorak, a junior this past season, is one of the 16 spring recipients, one from each C-USA member institution.
The St. Petersburg, Fla., native, competed at No. 3 doubles for the Tulane women's tennis team on the courts.
Off the courts, Dvorak has been instrumental in giving back to the Greater New Orleans area, taking part in a number of activities to better the community in which she currently lives, as well as being an active volunteer with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Dvorak has been active in `Wave Days', which is designed to expose the youth of New Orleans to the collegiate environment while conveying a message that attending college is an attainable goal. She has also participated in the Shadow-A-Student-Athlete Day and worked with the Second Harvest Food Drive through SAAC, accepting canned food donations at multiple Tulane athletics home events.
Dvorak was one of 10 Green Wave student-athletes to volunteer time with the Youth Rebuilding New Orleans (YRNO) non-profit organization created and organized by the youth of New Orleans to better the lives of the city's youth.
