NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - The Tulane women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Kentucky in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Vanderbilt's Currey Tennis Center on Saturday.

The teams split six singles matches, before the 20th-ranked Wildcats took two of three doubles matches to claim the one-point victory. With the loss, 35th-ranked Tulane concludes its season at 18-6, with five of those losses coming at the hands of ranked teams. Kentucky (15-9) advances to the second round where it will face host Vanderbilt.

Tulane's Anna Monhartova, ranked 85th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, was a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 winner over 39th-ranked Massoumeh Emami at the No. 1 spot. Monhartova concluded her spring with an impressive 22-2 record in singles play.

Freshman Maiko Cook also posted a victory for Tulane, turning in a 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4) result over UK's Christy Sigurski at the No. 2 spot. Kentucky won the Nos. 3, 4 and 5 spots to take a 3-2 lead before Molly Rollauer evened the score at 3-3 with her 6-3, 7-6 (4) win over Shannon Stafford at the No. 6 spot.

Perhaps the highlight of the day for Tulane was at No. 1 doubles. The unranked tandem of Monhartova and Cook demolished Kentucky's 16th-ranked duo of Emami and Kelly Brown, 8-0, to give the Green Wave a 4-3 lead. However, the Wildcats would get their revenge in the final score, taking the final two doubles matches for a 5-4 result.
