Women's Tennis Standouts Earn All C-USA Recognition
April 29, 1999 NEW ORLEANS, La. - - Tulane women's tennis players Anna Monhartova and Maiko Cook each earned All-Conference USA recognition, the league office announced Thursday. Monhartova was named to the All-Conference USA first team after posting a 21-2 record at No. 1 singles this season. She is the first Green Wave women's tennis player to be named first-team All-Conference USA. In doubles play, she has contributed an 18-2 record this spring, giving her a combined record of 39-4 in all competition. A sophomore from the Czech Republic, Monhartova did not lose a singles or double match in Conference USA play. Cook, a freshman from Mt. Pleasant, S.C., earned third-team All-Conference USA plaudits with an 8-11 record at No. 2 singles. She was the only freshman within Conference USA to play either No. 1 or No. 2 singles. In doubles action, she turned in a 10-1 record with Monhartova at the No. 2 doubles spot.
With an impressive 18-5 record and third-place finish at the Conference USA Tournament under its belt, the Tulane women's tennis team awaits word on an NCAA Regional invitational. The regional bids will be announced by the NCAA on May 5.
