NEW ORLEANS, La. - - Tulane's Anna Monhartova has been named the Conference USA women's tennis player of the week, the league office announced.
Monhartova captued the honor after winning all six matches she played in both singles and doubles. She dropped just one set in singles play, while giving up just three games in doubles action. It marked the second time this season that she was been named C-USA Player of the Week.
She started the week with an impressive 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 win over LSU All-American Bruna Colosio at No. 1 singles. Colosio is currently ranked 9th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll . Monhartova followed that with a pair of straight-set wins at No. 1 singles. Against Conference USA rival Southern Miss, Monhartova posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jackie Prew. She then turned in a 6-4, 6-4 win over UNO's Sofia Hallstrom, helping to hand the Privateers their first loss of the season.
In doubles action, Monhartova teamed with Anneli Axsater to post three wins at No. 3 doubles. The Wave duo turned in an 8-3 victory against LSU's Tami Botts and Laura Haddix before recording back-to-back 8-0 wins in matchs against Southern Miss and UNO.
Ranked 23rd in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings, Monhartova has now won nine of her last 10 matches in singles play.
The Green Wave return to action on Monday, as Tulane plays host to Marquette on Monday, at the Goldring Tennis Complex.
