Women's Tennis Cruises Past South Florida

TAMPA, Fla. - - Tulane's Anna Monhartova rallied from two match points down to lead Tulane to a 7-2 win over Conference USA rival South Florida on Monday.

Monhartova improved to 15-1 in No. 1 singles play, fighting past two match points to claim a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 win over USF's Katherine Tessier. Joyce Bergman was a winner at No. 3 singles, grabbing a 6-4, 6-4 win over South Florida's Tina Harrison, while Jennie Ligator was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at No. 4 singles. Tulane's Anneli Axsater improved to 9-0 at the No. 5 position, rallying from a first-set loss to claim a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 victory.

The Green Wave also captured all three doubles matches. Bergman and Ligator captured the No. 1 doubles spot with a 9-8 win, while Monhartova and Maiko Cook were 8-5 winners at the No. 2 doubles position. Axsater and Molly Rollauer claimed the No. 3 doubles victory for Tulane with an 8-6 victory.

The Green Wave returns to action on Saturday, April 3 as part of a double header with the Tulane men's team. The Tulane men begin the doubleheader with a 10:30 a.m. meeting with Louisville, while the Green Wave women's team faces Southwestern Louisiana at approximately 12 p.m.
