New Orleans - The Tulane women's tennis team hits the road this weekend for a pair of contests on the East Coast in Charleston, S.C. The Green Wave will take on Massachusetts on Friday, March 21 at 1 p.m. CST and will battle the College of Charleston on Saturday, March 22 at 9 a.m. CST. Both contests will take place at Patriot Point.
The Green Wave (4-13) is in search of its first road of the year and will look to get back into the win column on Friday. Tulane has played just two true road contests this season and those came during the opening week of March on the West Coast against nationally-ranked squads, Long Beach State and St. Mary's.
"Anytime you are able to travel to a beautiful part of the country to play solid teams is a good thing," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk said. "Obviously being a player down presents a small challenge but this team is not affected by that. We all realize we have to play well and really want every ball and the outcome will take care of itself. This is just another great opportunity to continue to improve and build our future."
UMass is 5-7 overall, but is just 1-6 on the road this season, while the College of Charleston is 11-6 overall this season, including 9-3 on its home courts. The Green Wave has not played UMass since the TU women's tennis program returned in 2008-09, but did battle the Cougars two years ago on its home courts and came away with a 5-2 win.
Tulane will be without the services of its top singles and doubles player, senior and 73rd-ranked Klara Vyskocilova, who is recovering from an injury.
