New Orleans - Tulane senior Klara Vyskocilova has been rewarded for her hot start in singles and most recently for her upset of the nation's 21st-ranked player last week with her selection as this week's Conference USA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, as it was announced today by the league office.
This is Vyskocilova's second career C-USA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week award. She also picked up the league's weekly award last year as a junior on March 19.
Last week, Vyskocilova, who hails from Klatovy, Czech Republic, came up with one of the biggest upsets of the year when she knocked off Auburn's 21st-ranked Pleun Bergman, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10), in a marathon of a match. Two days later, she made the week a clean sweep when she dispatched Kayla Rizzolo of South Florida in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
For the year, she is 12-6 overall but remains undefeated in dual matches with a 5-0 mark, and has now won her last seven straight singles contests dating back to the fall.
Tulane will hit the road and participate in the prestigious Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic, Feb. 21-23, in Montgomery, Ala. The 2014 women's field features Alabama, Auburn, Illinois, Oklahoma State, Rice, Texas Tech, Tulane and Yale.
