Women's Tennis Wins Second Straight
January 31, 1999 NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane women's tennis team earned its second straight dual-match victory, cruising to a 9-0 decision over cross-town rival UNO at Goldring Stadium on Sunday. Tulane's Anna Monhartova captured the No. 1 singles spot with a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 win over UNO's Isabelle Benoit, while Maiko Cook claimed the No. 2 singles win for the Green Wave. Cook was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Sylvia Lokollo. Joyce Bergman was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over UNO's Mandi Liebenberg at the No. 3 spot, while Tulane's Lindsey Merwin defeated Yolande DuPreez, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4. Bergman and Jennie Ligator won the No. 1 doubles match for Tulane with an 8-4 decision over the UNO team of Benoit and Lokollo, while Molly Rollauer and Anneli Axsater teamed to defeat UNO's Liebenberg and DuPreez at the No. 2 doubles spot, 8-1. Jessica Kessler and Molly Rollauer were default winners at the No. 5 and 6 singles positions, respectively, while Kessler and Monhartova were default winners at No. 3 doubles.
Tulane will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 9, as the Green Wave play host to Conference USA rival Southern Mississippi at the Goldring Tennis Stadium. The Wave's match against Northeast Louisiana, originally scheduled for Friday, Feb. 5, has been cancelled.
