New Orleans - Tulane's 59th-ranked women's tennis team will host Conference USA foe SMU in its spring 2013 home opener at 1 p.m. this Friday, Feb. 1 at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center (951 Marconi Meadows). Admission to the match is free.

Tulane (1-1) opened the spring season last week as a participant in the 2013 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kickoff Weekend in Los Angeles, Calif. The Green Wave fell to No. 67 UC Irvine, 4-2, but rebounded with a 4-1 victory over Akron for its first win of the season.

A year ago, the Green Wave sported a 9-4 overall home mark and will look to continue its winning ways on its home courts this season.

"We are very excited for our home opener against SMU," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk said. "It is so nice to be playing at home, in front of our fans and on our courts. We realize we have a challenge ahead of us with SMU but I feel confident that we are ready and prepared to battle against a C-USA opponent."

Seniors Emma Levy and Caroline Thornton had the hot hand for Tulane in its first two matches, as both players recorded a perfect 2-0 dual mark. Levy was perfect at the No. 2 spot and is tied with freshman Jacqui Katz for the most wins on the team this season with nine apiece, while Thornton ruled at the No. 5 spot and is 3-2 on the year.

Junior Klara Vyskocilova is ranked No. 118 in the country and boasts a 7-3 mark, while freshman Ipek Birol is 6-2 during her young career.

In doubles, Thornton and senior classmate Caroline Magnusson are 7-4 in doubles this season, while Levy and junior Jenny Hois are 3-1.

SMU also opened its spring campaign last week and came away with a 4-3 win against Nicholls State in Dallas, Texas. Friday's match is the first meeting between TU-SMU since 2010 when the Mustangs prevailed, 6-1, at Dallas.

The Green Wave women's tennis team will play all nine of its home matches this spring at the City Park Pepsi Center. The City Park/Pepsi Tennis Center features 16 hard and 10 clay courts, a clubhouse with a pro shop, restrooms, showers and a meeting room. The facility is located off Marconi Blvd. between I-610 and Harrison Avenue. For more information on City Park Pepsi Center, please visit http://www.neworleanscitypark.com/tennis.html
