Tennis' Gerber Posts Victory In Day Two of Purdue Invitational

NEW ORLEANS - Freshman Caroline Gerber posted a singles-match victory but the Green Wave continued to experience hard times as the Tulane University women's tennis team continued play in the Purdue Invitational Saturday at the Schwartz Tennis Center. Gerber's Flight Three win was the lone victory for of the day for the Green Wave, which posted a 1-6 record for the second time in as many days at Purdue. She dropped the first set to Michigan State's Lindsey Longergan, 2-6, but bounced back with back-to-back 6-3 sets to post her first win of the weekend. All in all, Tulane posted a 1-4 record in singles play while dropping both of its doubles contests. No other Tulane individual won a set as Lindsay Dvorak fell to Michigan State's Stephanie Kebler, 6-2, 6-0, Marcela Fonseca dropped a 7-6 (3), 6-0 contest to the Spartans' Manon Noe, Jessica Lange lost to MSU's Elena Ivanova, 6-3, 6-1, and Sharon Siegel came up shy against State's Dana Guentert, 6-4, 6-1. In doubles action, the tandem of Dvorak and Gerber dropped an 8-2 contest to Noe and Whitney Wlson, 8-2, while Seigel and Lange fell to Michigan State's Kebler and Ana Milosavljevic, 8-0. Tulane closes out play in the Purdue Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 9, and will open the spring portion of its schedule on Jan. 18 against North Texas as the Goldring Tennis Complex. From there, the Green Wave will take on cross-town foe UNO on Jan. 22 and battle Southern on Jan. 25 back at Goldring. RESULTS FROM DAY TWO OF THE PURDUE INVITATIONAL SINGLES
