HOUSTON - The Green Wave doubles team of sophomore Mariam Kurdadze and freshman Emma Levy won the Flight A Doubles title, as the Tulane University women's tennis team wrapped up play in the Alonti Cougar Fall Draw in fine fashion Sunday at the John E. Hoff Courts.

Kurdadze and Levy, who combined to go 2-0 on Saturday, defeated Sam Houston State's duo of Federica Denti and Girogia Pozzan, 8-2 to claim the program's second doubles title during the fall as Caroline Gerber and Marcela Fonseca won the Flight 4 Doubles Draw championship at the Rice Classic. For the weekend, the Green Wave went a combined 23-15 after going 15-10 in singles play and posting an 8-5 record in doubles action.

"That was huge," Tulane head women's tennis coach Terri Sisk said. "(Kurdadze and Levy) were the No. 2 seed and really did an outstanding job of playing at a very high level and really had a convincing win. They really played well together, they communicated well and they understand court positioning, which is huge for doubles.

"It was a great, great weekend. This team has done a great job in all areas. Bringing home the Flight A Doubles championship will be a huge motivator for the upcoming spring season."

The Kurdadze/Levy championship was one of three finals matches for Tulane on Sunday, but the Green Wave fell short in each of their singles championship matches. Kurdadze dropped the Flight A Singles championship to Akron's Zara Harutyunyan, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) while sophomore Lindsay Dvorak fell in the Flight C Singles finals to Prang Pantusart of Akron, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-0.

As a team, the Green Wave went 2-2 in singles play on Sunday as Levy defeated Lee College's Nadia Lee 6-1, 6-3 in Flight A consolation play while Fonseca downed Sam Houston State's Laura Peschke in Flight D consolation action, 6-2, 6-2.

"We had an incredible fall season and I think that this will set the tone for spring," Sisk said. "We played a lot of tough opponents along the way and really did well all the way around. I think if we take anything from the success we had this fall, we take it as a huge momentum and confidence builder."

The Green Wave will open the spring portion of their schedule against New Mexico in Lubbock, Texas, on Friday, Nov. 22. Tulane's first home spring match is slated for Feb. 6, when the Wave take on Southeastern Louisiana at 1 p.m. in the Goldring Tennis Facility.
