NEW ORLEANS - Senior Emma Levy became the sixth Green Wave tennis player to bring home a flight title this fall when she defeated Auburn's Ashley Kitchen, 1-6, 6-0, 10-4, in the finals of the Flight A Singles Consolation Bracket this morning at the 2012 Southern Regionals at the Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Levy, who hails from Princeton Junction, N.J., was the seventh overall seed in singles, but stumbled in the first round to Auburn's Jackie Kasler. However, Levy rebounded in the consolation bracket with three straight wins en route to the flight championship.
Levy joined freshman Jacqui Katz, who claimed the Flight B Singles Consolation title, as the only players from one team to win singles titles at the regional event.
Tulane now has six players who have brought home tournament hardware this fall. Along with Levy, freshmen Ipek Birol brought home a flight championship at the Longhorn Invitational, while Katz has now won two tournament titles, including this week's, and at the Longhorn Invitational as well.
Junior Klara Vyskocilova and senior Emma Helisten were each victorious in the season opener at the Auburn Invitational. Vyskocilova captured the Flight 1 Singles title, while Helisten ran through the Flight 8 Singles to win the bracket.
Also, at the Auburn Invitational, Levy joined senior Hila Elster in doubles and the duo brought home the Flight 3 Doubles title.
