NEW ORLEANS - Tulane's third-seeded Klara Vyskocilova and 9-16 seed Ipek Birol each won their first two singles matches on Friday and advanced into Saturday's Round of 16, while the Green Wave doubles teams of fourth-seeded Caroline Magnusson and Caroline Thornton and the third-seeded tandem of Vyskocilova and Emma Levy each won their opening round contests to move into the Round of 16 at the Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Saturday's action begins at 9 a.m. with two rounds of doubles then one round of singles.

Tulane combined for a 15-7 overall record in both singles and doubles on Friday. Vyskocilova opened her march with a straight set shutout of UAB's Amy Lowther, 6-0, 6-0, and then dispatched Northwestern State's Polina Konop, 6-3, 6-1, in the second round. Vyskocilova, a junior, will face LSU's Ella Taylor on Saturday.

Birol opened with a three-set victory over Troy's Candela Munoz, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0, in her first match and then topped ULM's Sophie Rufyikiri in the second round, 7-5, 6-2. The Tulane freshman will take on Ole Miss' fifth-seeded Julia Jones for the right to advance into Sunday's quarterfinal round.

Levy and Magnusson each dropped her singles openers, but are still alive in the consolation bracket. Levy fell to Auburn's Jackie Kasler, 6-3, 6-3, and then earned a walk-over against South Alabama's Emily Newton and the Wave senior will battle ULM's Justyna Kroll on Saturday.

Magnusson dropped her opener to second-seeded Caroline Rohde Moe of Ole Miss, 6-1, 6-2, but fought back to take out Jackson State's Karen Martinez, 6-1, 6-2, and the TU senior will face Auburn's Paulina Schippers on Saturday.

Also still vying for a title is senior Emma Helisten in the Flight B singles. Helisten opened play with a, 6-1, 6-2, victory over UAB's Menanteau Moolman and then claimed a, 6-3, 6-1, win over Northwestern State's Daniela Simonova. Helisten will take on Troy's Rosaura Ramirez-Vega on Saturday and the winner will advance into Sunday's semifinal match.

Also, in Flight B action, freshman Jacqui Katz fell to Ole Miss' Vivian Vlaar, 6-0, 6-0, but came back to defeat Jackson State's Rebekah Adewumi, 6-1, 6-0, in the consolations. Katz will square off against Troy's Samya El Hsissen in the semifinals on Saturday.

In doubles, Magnusson and Thornton raced past Samford's duo of Kristin Lewis and Lauren Caballero, 8-3, and will meet LSU's team of Mary Jeremiah and Ebie Wilson on Saturday for the right to advance into Sunday's quarterfinal round.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the bracket, Vyskocilova and Levy made their way out of the first round with an 8-4 win over Samford's Emily Mallory and Jessica Northcutt and will play Auburn's Schippers and Maria Cardenas Conti on Saturday.

The Tulane duo of Katz and Helisten topped Jackson State's team of Adewumi and Laura Carolina Rojas, 8-0, and will take on Ole Miss' 9-16 seeded Rohde Moe and Marija Milutinovic on Saturday. Birol and senior Hila Elster fell to Northwestern State's Tatiana Larina and Andrea Nedorostova in the opening round of doubles, 8-4, but will resume action in the consolation bracket on Saturday against UAB's Lowther and Caroline Faught.
