New Orleans - The Tulane tandem of senior Mariam Kurdadze and junior Emma Levy each advanced to the second round of pre-qualifying singles on Saturday at the 2011 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships with wins in the opening round, but both players dropped their second round match to end their singles run at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Kurdadze opened singles action with a three-set win over Maria Belaya from William & Mary, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, in the first round and has now defeated Belaya twice this season after claiming a win in the Tribe Invitational two weeks ago.
In the second round, Kurdadze couldn't solve Long Beach State's Anais Dallara, dropping a 6-4, 6-3, decision.
Levy took a three-set win in her opening round over Colorado's Kristina Schleich, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. In the second round, Levy fell to JackieWu from Vanderbilt, 6-3, 6-3.
In other Green Wave action on Saturday, the doubles duo of senior Lindsay Dvorak and junior Caroline Thornton opened pre-qualifying doubles but couldn't get past Nebraska's tandem of Veresova/Weatherholt, in the first round, falling 8-1.
Kurdadze and Levy bring a 3-1 doubles record this fall into the Championships and will start the doubles qualifying round on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
