New Orleans - Tulane's 38th-ranked women's tennis team chalked up their fourth straight win today with a convincing 6-1 win over Middle Tennessee State at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
With the win, Tulane improved to 14-6 overall this season and has now won 11 out of its last 13 matches dating back to March 3. The Green Wave will have to celebrate the win quickly as the team returns to action on Saturday morning to face Arkansas State in Murfreesboro at 9 a.m. Middle Tennessee State dropped to 8-9 on the year with the loss.
Today, the Green Wave marched through doubles with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots to claim the doubles point and go up 1-0. TU's senior duo of Caroline Magnusson and Caroline Thornton downed MTSU's Flavia Nagayama and Yuiri Nomoto (MSTU), 8-3, at No. 2, while senior Emma Levy and junior Jenny Hois topped Carla Nava and Alexandra Torres, 8-1, at No. 3.
In singles, Tulane rolled to wins in five of six contests, including Levy, who captured her 10th straight singles victory with a, 6-4, 6-2, win over Nagayama at No. 3. Magnusson extended her win streak to eight straight with her, 6-1, 6-0, victory over Torres at No. 6.
Hois got past Nomoto at No. 2, 6-3, 6-2, while freshman Ipek Birol claimed a, 6-0, 6-2, win over Nayara Moraes at No. 4 and junior Klara Vyskocilova (TLN) dispatched Irina Constantinida, 6-2, 6-2, at the top spot.
