NEW ORLEANS, La. - - Tulane's Anna Monhartova fought off three consecutive set points and rallied to win the No. 1 singles match, as the Green Wave women's tennis team claimed a 9-0 win over Southwestern Louisiana at the Goldring Tennis Stadium on Saturday.
Down 6-5 in the second set and trailing 40-love, Monhartova rallied to even the scores at 6-6 before winning the match with a 7-4 victory in the tie-breaker. Her 7-5, 7-6 (4) win improved her to 16-1 on the season in singles play.
Led by Monhartova's win at the No. 1 spot, Tulane swept all six singles matches in straight sets. Maiko Cook was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 2, while Joyce Bergman earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3. Jessica Kessler's 6-2, 6-3 victory gave the Wave the No. 4 singles win, while Jennie Ligator posted a 6-0, 6-4 result to claim the No. 5 position. Anneli Axsater rounded out the Tulane sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 spot.
In doubles play, Monhartova and Cook improved to 8-0 at No. 2 doubles with their 8-2 win, while Axsater and Molly Rollauer were 8-3 winners at the No. 3 spot. Bergman and Ligator earned the No. 1 doubles win by default.
Tulane returns to action on Thursday, April 8 with a home match against in-state rival LSU. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at the Goldring Tennis Stadium.
