The Tulane women's team took No. 54 LSU to the brink before coming up just a few points short of upsetting the Tigers today in a 4-2 loss at the W.T. "Dub" Robinson Stadium in Baton Rouge.

Tulane (4-18) received a boost with the return of senior and 51st-ranked Klara Vyskocilova, who missed the last five matches with an injury. With Vyskocilova back in the line-up, Tulane went to work in doubles against its long-time rival.

LSU (10-10) claimed the No. 3 slot with an 8-1 win, but TU immediately knotted the battle for the all-important doubles point thanks to an 8-5 victory at No. 2 by sophomores Meredith Maltby and Ipek Birol over Skylar Holloway and Ella Taylor.

The Green Wave then captured the point when Vyskocilova and sophomore Jacqui Katz edged LSU's top tandem of Noel Scott and Ariel Morton, 8-6.

With the visitors from the Crescent City holding a 1-0 advantage as singles began, the Green Wave made things interesting by going up 2-0 when the Tigers' top player, No. 88 Joana Vale Costa, retired after falling behind 3-0 to Vyskocilova at No. 1.

Tulane looked to be in business to gain its third point of the match following Katz's first-set win at No. 3. However before she could finish off her opponent, the Tigers reeled off wins at No. 5, 2, 6, 4 to claim the victory.

"After the year we've had, it would have been easy to go out and roll over and we did just the opposite today," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk said. "We took the doubles point from a ranked SEC team and had several chances in singles but were not able to convert. I'm proud of the girls for their energy in doubles and really digging their heels in today. We are going to take the positives from today and keep moving forward for our future goals."

Tulane will conclude the regular season on Thursday, April 10 at 1 p.m. against Conference USA newcomer UTSA at the City Park Pepsi Center.
