New Orleans - Tulane's 39th-ranked women's team ran its home win streak to six straight and got back into the win column today with a 4-1 victory over Samford at the City Park Pepsi Center.

Playing in its first match as one of the nation's Top-40 ranked squads, the Green Wave wouldn't consider a letdown on this day. Tulane dashed out of the gates early by taking two of three doubles matches for the all-important doubles point for a quick 1-0 advantage and then took three of four singles matches in straight sets to put away the Bulldogs.

Tulane improved to 11-6 overall and moved its home record to 7-1 this spring, while Samford dropped to 6-9 overall this season.

"Today was a solid effort from the team," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk said. "At this point in the season, we are looking to keep our momentum going, stay healthy and focus on playing to win. I'm proud that we are looking strong and are now beginning our preparation for our Florida swing with two tough matches ahead."

In doubles, senior Emma Helisten and freshman Ipek Birol teamed up to shutout Samford's Jessica Northcutt and AnnMarie Lyon, 8-0, at No. 3, while TU's senior duo of Caroline Magnusson and Caroline Thornton moved up to the top spot and claimed an 8-2 win over Kristin Lewis and Emily Mallory to capture the point.

In singles action, Samford tied the match early at 1-1 when Stephanie N'tcha topped Birol, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 2 slot, but the Bulldogs' new-found momentum was short lived.

Playing at the top spot for the first time this spring, Levy logged her eighth-straight win and improved to 18-8 overall with a, 6-3, 6-0, win over Lewis, while Thornton downed Northcutt, 6-4, 6-1, at the third spot and Magnusson clinched the win when she made quick work of Mallory at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0.

The Green Wave returns to action on Tuesday, March 26 at 11 a.m. CST when it begins a four-match road swing at FIU in Miami, Fla. TU will then play at South Florida on March 28, followed by dates with both Middle Tennessee State (April 5) and Arkansas State (April 6) in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
