New Orleans - The 50th-ranked Tulane women's tennis program continued their winning ways today, rolling to their third straight victory with a 7-0 shutout over Illinois State at the City Park Pepsi Center.
The Green Wave improved to 8-5 overall and has now won five of its last six outings, and also notched the second straight shutout. Illinois State dropped to 5-6 overall.
"I'm pleased with today's result," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk said. "I thought we executed really well in singles after a very sluggish start in doubles. We are still working on coming out of the gate faster and with some conviction. We will now begin our preparation for a very tough Blue Gray Tournament. This will definitely push us but I am looking forward to see how we respond."
The Wave was once again dominant in doubles play and claimed the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles. Tulane's top duo of junior Klara Vyskocilova and freshman Ipek Birol teamed up to post an 8-2 victory over Illinois State's Emmie Marx and Sarah Paulson, while TU's No. 3 team of seniors Emma Levy and Hila Elster cruised to an 8-4 win over Carolina Abello and Stefanie Youngberg.
The Wave steamrolled through singles action and only surrendered one set to the Redbirds. Tulane took five of six contests in straight sets and Vyskocilova's, 6-0, 6-4, win over Marx at No. 1 clinched the match for the Wave.
Tulane returns to action this weekend at the prestigious Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic, March 15-17, in Montgomery, Ala.
