Women's Tennis Downs Central Florida

NEW ORLEANS, La. - - Tulane won two of three doubles matches to claim a 5-4 win over Central Florida in women's tennis action at Goldring Stadium on Saturday.

After splitting six singles matches, the teams entered doubles play tied at 3-3. UCF quickly took a 4-3 lead after its No. 1 doubles team of Marieke Gunawan and Veronica Widyadharma posted a 8-0 win over Tulane's Maiko Cook and Joyce Bergman. However, the Wave even the score at 4-4 with an 8-2 victory over No. 2 doubles, as the Tulane tandem of Jessica Kessler and Anna Monhartova downed USF's Gaelle Gouttefarde and Ann-Jeanette Svantesson. Tulane clinched the match with a victory at No. 3 doubles, as the Wave duo of Anneli Axsater and Julie Morris posted an 8-4 win over Hadas Ronen and Sonja Prokopec.

In singles play, the Wave claimed wins at the No. 4, 5 and six positions. Morris was a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 winner over Gouttefarde at the No. 4 spot, while Kessler was a 6-1,6-2 winner over Daniela Okal at the No. 5 position. Molly Rollauer posted a 7-6, 7-5 win over UCF's Ronen in the No. 6 singles match. Tulane's top three singles players were not as fortunate, however, as Monhartova, Cook and Axsater all dropped their singles matches.

The Green Wave return to action on Sunday, play host to Florida International at the Goldring Tennis Stadium. The match is schedule to begin at 10 a.m.
