Former collegiate All-American Tom Hand recently completed his first season as the women's tennis assistant coach at Tulane. Hand's duties at Tulane include on-court
coaching during matches as well as player development.
Hand spent four seasons as a player at LSU, earning All-America honors in 1998.
He spent three years as team captain, and helped lead the Tigers to the ITA No. 1
ranking in 1998 and 1999 as well as Southeastern Conference championships in
those seasons. He was named the 1999 GTE Academic All-American of the Year and
was the winner of the prestigious 2000 TENNIS Magazine/Arthur Ashe Leadership
and Sportsmanship Award.
He finished his career ranked third at LSU in all-time singles wins and
among the Tigers' all-time Top Five in doubles victories. He
graduated in three years with a degree in politcal science,
earning a perfect 4.0 grade point average. He recevied the
University Medal for academic excellence in 1999 and was
selected as the Tiger Athletic Foundation Scholar-Athlete of the
Year in 1998
