Career Notes: Three-year letterwinner has participated in 26 career meets...holds the No. 3 individual time in Tulane history in the 200 back (2:02.64 at Phill Hansel Invitational on Nov. 23, 2013), the No. 4 mark in the 100 back (56.73 at the C-USA Championship on Feb. 28, 2014) and the No. 6 mark in the 100 fly (56.43 at C-USA Championship on Feb. 28, 2014)...also holds the No. 6, 11, 12 overall times in the 200 back...in relay action, part of the No. 10 team in school history in the 400 medley relay (3:53.98 at Phill Hansel Invitational on Nov. 21, 2013) and No. 11 in the 200 medley relay (1:46.40 at Phill Hansel Invitational on Nov. 22, 2013).
2013-14: Swam in all nine meets as a junior...posted career-best times of 56.43 in the 100 fly (Feb. 28) and 56.73 in the 100 back (Feb. 28) at the Conference USA Championship, 24.11 in the 50 free with a leadoff split at the Phill Hansel Invitational (Nov. 21) and 2:02.64 in the 200 back at the Hansel Invite (Nov. 23)...tallied four individual top three finishes with a second-place showing in the 200 back and a third-place performance in the 100 back vs UALR (Oct. 12) as well as third-place finishes in the 100 back and 200 back at North Texas (Jan. 18)...in relay action, helped the 200 free and 200 medley units finish third vs UALR...also saw swam leadoff in the 400 medley at the Phill Hansel Invitational and the Houston Quad Meet...away from the pool, claimed C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Tulane 3.0 Club recognition.
2012-13: Participated in eight meets as a sophomore...posted season-best times of 56.83 in the 100 back (Feb. 22), 57.51 in the 100 fly (Feb 22) and 2:03.31 in the 200 back (Feb. 23) at the Conference USA Championship...best individual finishes were third-place showings in the 100 back at UALR (Oct. 6) and at Loyola Marymount (Jan. 11)...in relay action, helped the 200 medley unit finish third vs LSU (Oct. 26)...also swam the second leg of the 200 free and leadoff of the 200 medley at San Diego State (Jan. 7) while leading off the 200 medley and the 400 medley vs North Texas (Oct. 20) and at Loyola Marymount, respectively...away from the pool, claimed C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Tulane 3.0 Club recognition.
2011-12: Swam in all nine meets as a true freshman...posted a career-best time of 57.26 in 100 free at San Diego State (Jan. 19) to go with season-best marks of 26.16 in 50 free in the preliminaries of the UH Cougar Classic (Nov. 17) as well as 57.90 in the 100 back (Feb. 17), 58.72 in the 100 fly (Feb. 17) and 2:07.67 in the 200 back (Feb. 18) in the preliminaries of the Conference USA Championship...tallied four individual top three finishes: coming in second in the 100 and 200 back vs Vanderbilt and touching the wall third in the 100 and 200 back vs North Texas...in relay action, helped finish third in the 200 medley vs Vanderbilt...also swan leadoff for the 400 medley at the San Diego Relays and Houston Tri-Meet, and the third leg of the 400 free at LSU...away from the pool, claimed C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Tulane 3.0 Club recognition.
High School: Attended Claremont Secondary High School but did not swim competitively for the school as it did not sponsor the sport...swam for Island Swimming for coach Melissa Turnbull...was a national medalist in the back and fly for her respective age group every year from 2006-10 and was a member of Team British Columbia from 2005-10...named Best Female Swimmer on Island Swimming from 2005-08 and set a club record in the open 50-meter fly (29.28)...was a Provincials finalist in the relay and backstroke, and helped set the Provincials 400 free relay record in 2008...was a standout track and field athlete where she earned regional championships in the high jump and shot put....earned the Physical Education Distinction Award as a freshman.
Personal: Born Vanessa Reianne Loewen on Sept. 1, 1993, in Vancouver, Canada...daughter of Reid Loewen and Caroline King...has one brother, Mason...majoring in public health.
