Swimming & Diving Adds 9 Newcomers For 2012-13 Season

Green Wave signing class marks the first time the program will field a four-year team since 1990

Justin Montrie is in his third season as Tulane's diving coach and will once again be responsible for the recruiting and development each of the program's diving student-athletes.

A native of Barrington, Ill., Montrie made his first foray into the coaching profession with the Green Wave during the 2010-11 season and made an immediate impact as he helped then-rookie Sadie Eicher earn Conference USA Freshman Diver of the Year honors.

A collegiate All-American diver at the University of Indiana, , Montrie helped lead the Hoosiers to the Big Ten title in 2006, the program's first since 1985, and claimed the team's Jeff Warrick Award as Indiana's most improved diver. He cleared zone standards in both the 3-meter and platform and finished as high as 10th on the tower at the Zone C Championships. Montrie also finished fifth in the Big Ten Championships and placed as high as fourth during the season with a pair of fourth-place efforts in the 1-meter against Ohio State and Kentucky.

During his final season of intercollegiate competition, Montrie helped lead the Hoosier's to a sixth-place finish at the Big Ten Championship and posted the team's fourth-best score in the 3-meter springboard (323.63) and the fifth-best marks in the platform (216.25) and 1-meter springboard (287.92)

Montrie was a member of the 2006 National Team in the 3-meter springboard and was part of the Combined National Team Championship in 2004, 2005 and 2007.

Active away from the pool as well, Montrie was a member of Indiana's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for three years, serving as executive chairman his final two years and as the media project manager as a senior. With SAAC, he worked extensively with the faculty, coaching staffs and other sports' captains to promote student-athlete work balance and helped lead the "Indiana University Athletics Column" which improved and built media and athletic relations to publicize success stories of excelling individuals.

As a prepster, Montrie earned All-America honors during his time with the Windy City Diving Club and set Barrington High and sectional diving records. He finished fifth at the state meet in 2004 and was tabbed team captain, MVP and most valuable senior. In a recent poll, he was named the No. 5 diver in the Pioneer Press All-Lake Shore All-Decade Team on Dec. 4, 2009.

Following his diving career, Montrie worked as an options and futures broker with Empire Futures Group in Manhattan Beach, Calif., from January-April 2009 and most recently was a qualified trader with Traders Capital LLC in Chicago from Sept. 2009 until accepting his current position at Tulane.

Montrie completed his bachelor's degree in public affairs from the Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affaris in June 2009.
