2011-12: Swam in all nine meets as a true freshman...posted top times of 26.16 in 50 free in the preliminaries of the UH Cougar Classic on Nov. 17, 57.26 in 100 free at San Diego State on Jan. 19 and 57.90 in the 100 back (Feb. 17), 58.72 in the 100 fly (Feb. 17) and 2:07.67 in the 200 back (Feb. 18) in the preliminaries of the C-USA Championship...tallied four individual top three finishes: coming in second in the 100 and 200 back vs Vanderbilt and touching the wall third in the 100 and 200 back vs North Texas...in relay action, helped finish third in the 200 medley vs Vanderbilt...also swan leadoff for the 400 medley at the San Diego Relays and Houston Tri-Meet, and the third leg of the 400 free at LSU...away from the pool, claimed C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Tulane 3.0 Club recognition.
High School: Attended Claremont Secondary High School but did not swim competitively for the school as it did not sponsor the sport... was a standout track and field athlete where she earned regional championships in the high jump and shot put....earned the Physical Education Distinction Award as a freshman.
Club: Swam for Island Swimming for coach Melissa Turnbull...was a national medalist in the back and fly for her respective age group every year from 2006-10 and was a member of Team Brtish Columbia from 2005-10...named Best Female Swimmer on Island Swimming from 2005-08 and set a club record in the open 50-meter fly (29.28)...was a Provincials finalist in the relay and backstroke, and helped set the Provicials 400 free relay record in 2008.
Personal: Born Vanessa Reianne Loewen on Sept. 1, 1993, in Vancouver, Canada...daughter of Reid Loewen and Caroline King...has one brother, Mason...proposed major is biology.
