NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane University sand volleyball program kicks off an action packed weekend on Friday, April 11, when the Green Wave head to Siesta Key, Fla., to take on No. 4 Florida State before participating in the Sixth Annual Fiesta at Siesta Key from Saturday through Sunday.

Tulane enters the weekend 5-4 on the year and looking to bounce back from a 3-2 loss to ULM on Tuesday in Monroe, La. Florida State, meanwhile, comes into Friday's dual match 14-1 overall and riding a seven-match winning streak. The Green Wave and the Seminoles are two of 30 teams participating in the Fiesta at Siesta Key, including Division I programs College of Charleston, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, FIU, Georgia State, Grand Canyon, Jacksonville, LSU, Stetson, North Florida, South Carolina, South Florida, UAB and ULM.

Sand Volleyball Drops Pair At Georgia State Tournament
Two days after receiving its first national ranking in program history, the Tulane University sand volleyball team hit a bump in the road as the ninth-ranked Green Wave dropped a pair of dual matches in the Georgia State Sand Tournament on Friday at the GSU Sand Volleyball Complex.


Also joining the field over the weekend on the East Coast are Florida State College-Jacksonville, Hillsborough State, Palm Beach State, Pasco-Hernando State College, Polk State College, South Florida State College, Southeastern University, St. Catherine University, St. Johns River State College, St. Petersburg College, St. Thomas University, State College of Florida, Warner and Webber International.

As a team, the Green Wave are 40-33 in individual matches, including a 15-13 mark in dual-match competition. Tulane's top team of freshman Tea Juric and Jackie Wegner lead the way with a 13-7 overall record while freshman Hannah Holmes and junior Anna Wruck are next at 8-6. The Juric/Wegner tandem leads the squad with an 8-3 showing in pairs play.

Following Friday's dual match, Tulane and the field of the Fiesta at Siesta Key at 7:30 a.m. and will be split up into two groups of pool play. The top two pairs from 10 schools and four at-large teams will be placed into six pools of our competing for the Siesta Sand Pairs Challenge. The results from pool play will determine the seeding for bracket play which will be played on Sunday. Each match will be best-of-three sets, with rally scoring to 21 in the first two sets and to 15 in the third.

The remaining pairs from each school will compete in the Fiesta on Siesta Team Cup starting on Saturday at 9 a.m. There will be 27 different pools of four teams with pool play being one set to 25 points. After pool play, all teams will advance into four single elimination bracket playoffs. The Fiesta on Siesta Team Cup title will be awarded based on the final finish points for the top four pairs from each school.

After the Fiesta at Siesta Key, the Green Wave return to action on Saturday, April 19, when they travel to Baton Rouge to take on host LSU and UAB at 10 a.m. and noon, respectively.
