KENNER, La. - The Green Wave posted wins at No. 2, 4 and 5 action as the Tulane sand volleyball team closed out the inaugural Tulane Pelican Classic on a high note with a 3-2 win over Stetson on Sunday afternoon at Coconut Beach.
The win was the second in three matches over the weekend as the Green Wave bounced back from a 3-2 loss to ULM on Friday to post 3-2 wins over UAB on Saturday and the Hatters on Sunday. Tulane improved to 4-1 on the year while Stetson fell to 3-4.
For the third consecutive match, the Green Wave got solid production from the bottom of the line-up to take an early 2-0 lead. Junior Azarri Badawi and freshman Jackie Wegner scored Tulane's first point at No. 4 with a 21-16, 21-17 victory over Stetson's Alisha Hoffman and Catherine Coston while reshman Mackenzie Moore and sophomore Olivia Utt followed suit with a 21-17, 24-22 win over Claudia Kalin and Taylor Story on Court 5.
Stetson cut the deficit to 2-1 on Court 3 as Jordann Dierickx and Katie DiGirolamo teamed up to defeat senior Elysa Jackson and freshman Courtney Liddle - 21-17, 21-17, but the Green Wave's No. 2 tandem of sophomores Grace Weaver and Anna Wruck clinched the team decision with a 23-21, 21-15 win over Maren Rygh and Savannah Byl.
