NEW ORLEANS - Fresh off signing one of the top recruiting classes a year ago, Tulane University head golf coach Andrew Pratt has inked a pair of international standouts-- England's Olivia Winning and Argentina's Belen Goicoechea (Goy-Goy Chee-uh)-- to National Letters-of-Intent during the early signing period.

2012 Golf Signees

>> Olivia Winning
Doncaster, England/DeWarenne Academy
-Ranked 11th by the England Girls Order of Merit for 2012

Winning prepped at the DeWarenne Academy and is currently attending Balby Carr Sports and Science Community College. During her high school career, she led her squad to four straight South Yorkshire Schools Championships from 2008-11 and a runner-up finish in 2007, while the team finished second in both the North of England Schools Championship and the English Schools U16's in 2011.

During her final high school campaign, Winning played in 11 tournaments and posted four top-5 finishes including an individual title at the Yorkshire Girls U18. She was a semifinalist at the Northern Ladies Championship and qualified for match play at the British Girls U18. She was also the runner-up at the Northern Girls U18 Championships. Winning completed her career as the winner of the Yorkshire Girls.

>> Belen Goicoechea
Necochea, Argentina/Danish Argentian
-Ranked 4th in her age group according to Argentino De Juveniles

Goicoechea is a product of the Danish Argentian High School and has posted three first place finishes and eight top-10 showings in her last 11 tournaments. She claimed individual medalist honors at the Putter de Oro and two regional tournaments.

In January of 2012, Goicoechea recorded the lowest round of her career with a 5-under 66 and is currently averaging a 76.6 scoring average for the year. Along with her junior ranking, she is also ranked No. 8 in the Argentinian Amateur Rankings. Along with golf, Goicoechea also played field hockey, gymnastics, volleyball, tennis, handball and competed in track & field.

Winning is a 5'8" right-hander from Doncaster, England, who is currently ranked 11th by the England Girls Order of Merit for 2012, while Goicoechea is a 5'4" right-hander from Necochea, Argentina, and is the fourth-ranked golfer in her age group according to Argentino De Juveniles.

Last season during his rookie campaign at Tulane, Pratt secured three signees -- current freshmen Silvia Garces, Madison Opfer and Emily Penttila -- and the trio has been ranked as the top Freshman Class Impact in the nation by Golfstat.com. Fast forward one season and Pratt is confident his 2013 class will have the same impact as his talented crop of freshmen.

"I am extremely excited to announce our 2013 class of Olivia Winning and Belen Goicoechea," Pratt said. "Both of these young ladies are extremely talented players and both will make an immediate impact on our program next fall. Both Olivia and Belen are each one of the top golfers in their age group in their respective countries.

"The first thing that impressed me with both of these young ladies is their ability to shoot good scores when they didn't have their `A' game. That's what you have to do if you want to be a successful collegiate golfer because you're not always going to hit it the perfectly on every shot. The other thing was their demeanor on the golf course. They both are extremely tough competitors but have a cool, calm and confident way of going about playing their game. I look forward to helping both of them reach their goals during their time at Tulane."

This past summer at the Pleasington Putter, she outlasted Welsh international Becky Harries in a sudden death play-off with a birdie on the first extra hole, and she was also selected for the prestigious English Ladies Performance squad. Winning had a top 10 finish at the English girls' championship and was the runner-up at the Fairhaven Trophies where she set a course record.

"Olivia is an outstanding player with a tremendous amount of talent and ability. She is one of the top players in England and has played in many big tournaments in her young career. Her strengths are her length and accuracy off the tee and she possesses a great knack for being able to produce a great score. I look for Olivia to come in and have an immediate impact on our team."

Along with golf, Goicoechea also played field hockey, gymnastics, volleyball, tennis, handball and competed in track & field.

"Belen has one of the best fundamentally-sound golf swings that I have ever seen. She is the fourth-ranked junior in Argentina and is getting better each and every month. She grew up playing many sports so she is very athletic and it shows in her golf swing. Her strengths are her swing and her length off the tee. I look for Belen to become a very solid player for our program," Pratt said.
